Deanna Durbin

Anyone else care to speculate as to how Deanna would have done in this part?

Personally this is my favorite story, and Deanna my favorite actress, but I don't know if she would have fit into the role of Christine. Deanna had too much spunk if you ask me, and I thought the Christine in this version was wonderful.

IMHO, Ms. Durbin would have done a great job as Christine! She was a beautiful young lady and that voice...what else can I say? (I too was a huge fan.) BTW...the movie is on tonight at 10PM on MeTV.

Interesting question, dandilion. (I know you asked it a long time ago, but I've just watched this version for the first time in many years, courtesy of the Blu-ray set.)

I think very highly of Deanna Durbin, and yes, she could have done the role well. But I do prefer Susanna Foster for this, because Deanna had a very girl-next-door quality to her, that I think allowed people to identify with her in a very comfortable way. Susanna brought a slightly aloof, more "proper young girl" quality to it that better suited the period and style of this film.

Or so it seems to me. 

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
