What a ridiculous piece of sh!t (spoilers)

They're fighting over Rio - in front of her - and sizing her up to a horse.

And yet, she takes it, and doesn't get mad and ends up going off with the guy in the end anyway.

Talk about a complete and utter lack of self-respect. With those gazongas she could have had any man she wanted. And I'm sure she did.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Why don't you turn it off. ....... Go to bed.
If you don't like it *beep* up, and go on down the road. .... I'm sure there's a Three Stooges movie waiting for you.

I can understand you not liking the movie but not for the reasons you mention. In real life plenty of women behave just as Rio did in the movie. They like having men fight over them and, even if they're treated badly by those men or are disrespected, they dig in their heels and seem to want them all the more. Besides, both of the guys cherished that horse, Red. A horse would have been a valuable possession to a man in that setting. She probably didn't mind coming in a close second.

Talk about a complete and utter lack of self-respect.
While I would tend to agree with you, I suspect things would look very differently from Rio's point of view. She was Doc's girl before Billy came along but Doc was often away. In her situation; the time, the place, and the conditions, under which she lived she would have needed a man around as a protector and benefactor. Self-preservation would have been much more important to her than self-respect; though with a man, she would have also had a certain level of respect she would not have had on her own.

With those gazongas she could have had any man she wanted
Rio had good reason to despise Billy at first but as she cared for him; trying to keep him alive, she formed a bond that only grew as he gained his strength. She did, after all, sleep with him to keep him warm then married him to legitimize her actions. Later, she was more than happy to fulfill her wifely duties.

Yes, she may have been able to have her pick; most of the men would have been attracted to her but for the wrong reasons. To suit her needs, she may have had slim pickings. As I pointed out before, her need for a man had to fulfill certain requirements. Billy was a young, cute kid who was much closer to her own age but beyond that he would also be able to protect her, take care of her, give her a home and children. All the things she wanted and needed.

Having a great figure; one that attracted other men, was probably not high on the list of things most guys were looking for at the time. It might put their wife at risk so they'd be afraid to leave home. Look what happened with Doc. Those guys would have wanted a woman who could work long and hard, cook, and bear children; heartier stock. That's not to say Rio couldn't do all those things; obviously she could make herself useful but she was also young and needy. Look how easily she was able to forget Doc.

Having seen this movie as a kid, it was great. Now, 50 years later, it was a great disappointment. Corny lines, a 60 year old man playing a part of one 30, gun belts worn practically in their armpits, ugh. Oh well, it was good when I was a kid. I shouldn't have watched it again.
