What do you think about the remake?

"Rich and Famous" was George Cukor's last movie and the remake of "Old Acquaintance" with Jacqueline Bisset playing the Bette Davis part and Candice Bergen playing Miriam Hopkins' part. I think Meg Ryan played Dee Dee (or was it Patsy Kensit?).
What do you think about the remake?

I've watched "Rich and Famous" several times over the past decades without knowing that it was a remake and just watched "Old Acquaintance" for the very first time. I enjoyed both versions and think there have been worse remakes.

What do other movie lovers think?

It was Meg Ryan. I liked it because I liked the actors in it. Like you, I had never seen the original...which, BTW...is on today on TCM at 5pm Pacific time. And I'm going to try to watch it. I thought Davis and Hopkins were great, but I missed the first half the first time I saw it. With the exception of Gig Young, I really don't know most of the other actors. So, I'd like to watch it today to see what I missed last time.

What were the other remakes? I really don't know.

Thanks!

Sorry, it must be the language barrier...English is not my native language.
The only remake from "Old Acquaintance" that I know is "Rich an Famous".

I was more speaking in general that other remakes of other movies that I've watched were weaker (like the "Rebecca" remake with Charles Dance or the "East of Eden" remake with Jane Seymour).

A good remake was IMHO "Frenchman's Creek" with Alain Delon's son Anthony Delon playing the French pirate. I enjoyed it much more than the 1944 version with Joan Fontaine and John Gilbert, because the original had to be filmed (due to WW II) along the CA coast which you can tell, but the remake was filmed where the novel by Daphne DuMaurier takes place, in Cornwall, UK.

If English isn't your native language, you do very very well! Now I understand what you meant about remakes in general. They're just never the same...sometimes they're okay...and sometimes not. I finally got to see "Old Acquaintance" from start to finish the other evening, and it was cute. They changed the remake a bit, here and there, and now I'd like to see it again, too.

Thanks for the movie recommendations, too.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Thank you for your kind compliment :).

Let me know if you enjoyed the remake of "Frenchman's Creek". It's my favorite Daphne DuMaurier novel.

Merry Christmas and a marvelous 2016 :)!
