Impressed With Ilka Chase!!!!

Throughout the movie I was wondering where I had seen Ilka Chase before, she seemed so perfect in her part....blending a bit comedy with a bit of drama....and etc.

Having missed all the movies of any number of classic stars, I thought she would have a longer list of movies in her bio, and it seems I had not seen her before. Will certainly look for anything she is in though....:)

She was in Now, Voyager with Bette Davis, playing her sister in law who brings the doctor to see her.

I liked her in this but I thought the scene where she comes down to the car and interrupts them while they are kissing to give away past secrets her sister had confided in her previously was very unrealistic and it made me mad. What loving sister would do something like that?

I did note that she was in "Now Voyager" but it seems I keep on missing most of it when it comes on TCM and only see the last part over and over. Will be glued to it next time.

I had the same reaction to that scene you did. IMO the scene needed to be re-written....as the movie did need the scene to keep it from being a short feature :) perhaps they could have overheard her talking on the phone instead. (????) It was very weak.

Yes, this movie is perfectly cast with the finest performers for its difficult roles, and Miss Chase proves no exception.

Claudette Colbert ... Katherine Grant
Fred MacMurray ... Jim Ryan
Ilka Chase ... Hoppy Grant
Richard Haydn ... Roger Winant
Paul McGrath ... Henry Fulton
June Havoc ... Darlene
Marjorie Gateson ... Sophie

In addition to Ilka Chase, as well as its main stars, June Havoc and Richard Hayd also deliver noteworthy performances with their respective intregal characters here.

When I think of Ilka Chase I think of the books I read in 50s or 60s - she wrote about travel, I think - and at least one cook book.
