What happened to Zepp??

Zepp, the lousy heel, shoots Joe as he's falling, right after getting socked in the jaw by Joe. Joe, gut shot, struggles, and stands over Zepp, who is still conscious and Joe gets a very menacing look in his eye, raises his foot and we cut to Zepp, who looks scared.

Did Joe kill Zepp? or just give him a heavy non-fatal blow with his foot? When the door is finally broken down, the police captain takes one look at Zepp and says to get him to a hospital.

Zepp, the double-crossing bum, definitely deserved "joining the circus" as Joe would say - - Joe's slang for death. Did Zepp die?

I think he suffered an even worse fate...he lived, with a broken face, and then got sent to Europe or the Pacific to fight. :)

Well, Zepp was 4-F on account of his blood pressure. Do you think he would have been sent "Over There"??

I think that Joe stomped on his face, but Zepp lived. The cop said something like "Get an ambulance", not "Get the coroner".  Really good movie, lots of good characters and dialogue.
