Edmund Purdom

Purdom was whisked to Hollywood to play the lead roles in two "spectacles" -- "The Egyptian" in 1954 and "The Prodigal" in 1955. Neither was a success, (though I'm fond of the former), and Purdom returned to Europe where his career quickly dwindled into insignificance. Did he, perhaps, come along a decade too late? Might he, like James Mason, not have been a success in the Gainsborough "costumers" of the 1940s?
