Does anyone who has seen this 1943 film ever remember a background at any time of a circus with a sword swallower ?

reply

There was a fairground scene with Stewart Granger as a fairground barker.Maybe the sword swallower is in the missing 30 minutes.

I taped a version off the TV years ago and in my version there is a sword swallower at the fair.

Yes, just watched it today (10/7/08) on Film 4, with the sword swallower.

reply

Yes, it is part of the 116 minute version, and it is one of the best, extended fairground scenes in movies I saw.
Please refer to the thread «116 minute version vs 90 minute version».

It comes as little surprise to me that this film has an average imdb score of 6.9/10. Despite a good performance by Margaret Lockwood, James Mason is criminally underused and it is very un pc with the black face Toby.

It shows Toby and Clarrisa watching a sword swallower at the racehorse carnival He is shown with his back to the viewers.
