Oh, I agree! I saw this movie years and years ago and I've never forgotten it.
Do you or anyone else know if it comes in VHS or DVD? I'd love to own it.

Thanks!

I watched this movie way back in 1988, it had me in floods of tears! Its a fantastic movie, one I have never ever forgotten. I would love to see it again, but it doesnt seem to be re-run in the UK. I would love to own a copy of it.

I saw this movie on TCM a few years ago, but they won't show it again unless alot of people write in on their website and request it again. I've been doing that for months, but still nothing...good luck!!

i saw it on TCM some time near the start of the year. We've since gotten rid of foxtel but i would love to find a copy of it on video or DVD. Has anyone seen it somewhere?

reply

Just bought a copy off ebay. Has never been comercially released on vhs or dvd but it seems as if a few people have copies. I'll post if I see another copy on ebay.

I also loved this movie and have never forgotten it. (Considering my poor memory, that says a lot!) I don't buy many movies. When I do, I have to really love them. This is one I would very much like to have...and see again.

If anyone sees one listed for sale...anywhere...I would appreciate your letting me know. I'd planned to put it on my Christmas wish list, but I see that's probably a wish that can't be fulfilled immediately...considering it hasn't been released on VHS or DVD.

I'll also be sure to do as one of the posts recommends: I'll write to TCM and beg for them to rerun it.

Thanks, Crabman. I appreciate the heads up. Though I finally find a copy of it, I plan to try to record it for myself to see if I can get a better copy on my own.

Did you borrow your nickname from "My Name is Earl"? I love that show....I never miss it!

I always remember the bit where she is back at the lab and is being asked to do a jigsaw and she won't do it and is too upset, and the doctors around her are like. But she could do this when she was a few months old'. It was so amazing and sad to see her being that upset

I love that part, too. Even at such a young age, Margaret O'Brien was extremely talented. The entire movie is heartwarming and has a good message, and it is appropriate for the entire family.

If you don't already have a copy of the movie, be sure to record it...since the studio never released copies of the movie. Recording it for yourself may be the only way you'll get to see it again, especially since it's hard to predict when TCM will broadcast it.

To all who have been writing to TCM: Thank You! It is going to be on on the 4th of June, 8:00 AM in the U.S. Eastern Timezone.
I already sent myself an e-mail reminder. I have been looking for the return to this movie for years. I also have my blank tape ready to record it. Happy watching to everyone!

I just watched it. Really well done. Did Margaret O'Brien ever make a movie in which she did not have a crying scene? Did she ever make a bad movie?

I have been waiting for this movie forever! I saw it a few years ago, and have been trying to find it. It just so happened that I turned on the tv 7:30 AM and checked the preview guide, and saw that it was coming on at 8. I made sure that I recorded it, haha. I loved this movie, and Margaret O'Brien was such a good child actress.

I hope the quality of the tape/taping was good. I bought a copy on eBay about a year ago. I believe I paid $66 for it. (I think the bidding was rigged...and I accidently entered $3,350 instead of $33.50. Wow, was I glad the auction was almost over when I miskeyed my bid!) But, I'm glad to have a copy of it anyway. It's one of my all-time favorite movies. At the time I purchased the copy through the auction, I realized that TCM may not show it again in my lifetime (or so it seemed). I also knew that the studio never released the film on video. I set my mother's recorder to tape and thought everything was set, but her new digital cable system screwed things up. So, the movie didn't record. However, the DVD (for which I paid megabucks) will do...even if it is somewhat poor quality. It's definitely better than nothing at all. I'm glad you got to see this gem by Margaret O'Brien.

Just curious: Have you seen this on TMC, or do you have your own copy?
