Not one of Lewton's best

I watched this one last night and was pretty disappointed in it.

This is my fourth Val Lewton film (after Cat People, The Ghost Ship and I Walked With a Zombie) and I have to say that it is not one of his best.

The plot is simply not very interesting, the script occasionally feels like its verging on incoherence, and the execution feels phoned-in. It's like Val was on autopilot with this one.

I'm making an effort right now to get through all of Val's filmography. I hope this is the low point.
