bad reception

we taped this on our VCR and the reception was terrible. We know who did it but can someone explain to us why?( we saw who it was but don't remember the details since the screen was going from blue to picture constantly. Since everyone writing on this board has seen it I assume this won't spoil for anyone.

Don't know if you're interested in watching it again from start to finish, but you can watch it on YouTube in 13 parts.

Here's part 1 to get you started:

Or, if you just want to watch the final part, in which the murderer's motives are explained, here's part 13 (final):

Thanks but we hate watching on the computer I guess you are saying it is too complicated to explain would not expect this from a movie from 1943 but appreciate your response.

Here's my take on the solving of the murder: Basically, it was the old pipe-smoking guy ('Stacchi' Stacciaro) who turned out to be the killer. His motive was based on the fact that he had once been a legitimate opera singer but had lost his voice, so he could no longer sing. He had also sung opera in the burlesque palace back when it was an actual opera house. In short he was bitter about the tawdry world of burlesque taking the place of the glorious and classy world of real opera. On top of all that, he discovered that his granddaughter was one of the girls doing burlesque there in the theater. This pushed him over the edge, so he started killing the burlesque women.

Thank you so much. This was a frustrating situation not to know the end.
