I'm not buying

SPOILERS UP THE WAZOO!!!!!

So, you have a woman who is annoying, rejects you several times on end, and almost kills your horse (your livelihood in this case), so of course you break up with your trusted partner, follow her 2/3 across the country, propose marriage and radically change your life? No, mate. John Wayne's self-esteem is not that low.

Well, it was certainly lost, I'll agree with that.

That's why it's called comedy, you know :)))))

Then there's Duke: he makes her miss her bus, then tries to get her drunk and tries to hit on her in his hotel room. Not Wayne's must gentlemanly role.

Since when is love supposed to make sense...the women in my life who I desired the most were usually the ones who drove me nuts the most...it works that way often. Obviously you never experinced that.

I can buy that these two incompatible persons would get together, but I don't buy that we should be happy about it. How long does anyone give this marriage—assuming they even get that far?

As for her being annoying—yes, she is annoying in her cute way; but she has more to resent than he does. He made her miss the bus just so he could get the chance to get her drunk and in bed. She didn't intentionally make the horse sick, and she wouldn't have even gotten the chance had he not been such a cad.

I would have crawled naked over broken glass for a date with Jean Arthur.
