Breaking the fourth wall

There are a couple of cute instances in this film where the actors "break the fourth wall". One is Shemp Howard's explanation for why he always carries an umbrella. He's a Damon Runyon character. The other is when the boys are in the hotel room with the horse, and when Eugene Pallette knocks on the door, Bud says that it's Warner knocking. Lou replies something like, "So what? We're under contract to Universal".
