Big Plot Hole

Why did they not take the water bottles from the bodies of the Italian armored car crew? They took no cigarettes either it seems (we know they had some they were smoking on the hill) since a day later they were passing around their last fag. I know it's only a movie but that would have really added to the realisum.
Good movie over all though.
