The VooDoo Guard at the Sugar Cane Fields

CREEPED ME THE HELL OUT!

They show his silhouette but they don't show his face and then they show the two women walking through the fields. They see him in the dark. She shines the light on that damn guard and I could feel myself wanting to SCREAM! I can't believe nobody said anything about him! I'm damn near scared to type this!

While I didn’t scream I did yelp with fright! My god that face of his was creepy.

^You just HAD to bring him back up, didn't you? It's 3:25 a.m in California. I drove way to Vallejo, 20 minutes away from me, just to show the dvd to my bff. She was at Big Lots with me when I bought it 3 days ago. Anyways, I CAN'T look at him when he first appears on screen but the other two scenes I can take. Well, I let her keep the dvd so she could watch the other film on the 2 pack and I had to drive 20 minutes home with the car light on! So, finally, I was like, "Man, screw thatfool! He's fake and I'm a MAN! MAN UP, JAY!" Now, here I go getting an e-mail on my phone alerting me someone replied to me on imdb. "Voodoo guard in the sugar cane fields" flashing on my phone and I'm scared again! Thanks a lot!!!!!

Made me jump like mad! Great film though.

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

Nothing to be scared of, except the fact that, apparently, Voodoo can't cure hyperthyroid issues! :-)

I thought it was Usain Bolt.

I don't know how much of a drive it is from where you are to Palo Alto, but if you like this film, it's worth seeing on the Silver Screen.

I saw it at the Stanford for the first time in 2007, and it's been brought back twice since then: in 2009, and again this past weekend. If you keep an eye on the website for the theatre (stanfordtheatre.org) they're bound to bring it back again sometime.

If you happen to read this soon, there are more Val Lewton films coming up. The Leopard Man[i] and [i]Ghost Ship are coming up on Feb 3-4, along with Bedlam and The Body Snatcher on the 17th and 18th (the latter is a double bill not to be missed). There are a couple more, so check out the website if the drive isn't too onerous (I'm guessing it would be 90 minutes or so from where you are to Palo Alto).

There is a huge difference between seeing these films on DVD and seeing them in a movie theatre the way that they were intended to be seen. Admission to the Stanford is only $7, and the snacks are dirt-cheap, (offhand, I think a large popcorn is $2.50) so c'mon, man. :)

Hello and thanks for the tip. I live in the Bay Area and one of my heroes, James Franco, is from nPalo Alto so I've wanted 2 visit. I dunno if I wanna see that Guard on the big screen, though!

He kind of reminded me of that 7-foot tall voodoo guy in 'Live and Let Die'.

As for being scared, while I do love the horror genre I find I'm a tough sell on it as far as getting creeped out or scared by most of it. To me it's really just a movie, in that regard.

And on that note I will click "Post Reply" and thus set off everyone's Voodoo Guard at the Sugar Cane Fields email alerts. ha

Yeah, the entire several-minute march to that hokus pokus spot was one beautifully atmospheric sequence. Quite outstanding.
