Probably my favorite horror movie of the 1940's

It's amazing what Val Lewton could do with a low budget. This movie comes across as a movie made with a higher budget. Quality horror film.

I wouldn't say it's my absolute favorite of the '40s because that honor would go to The Wolf Man, but it's definitely in the top 5. This was a very interesting film.

Isle of the Dead with Boris Karloff really pulled me in. The dialogue is phenomenal and intriguing.

Val Lewton was an absolute master of horror, using low budgets so effectively and concealing the terror in the shadows and by suggestion. Creating such foreboding atmospheres of dread with so little was his strength.

Doing so much with so little makes Val Lewton even more admirable.
