Poochie

First time I have ever heard that nickname used in a movie. When the son puts down the phone and says to his 60yo father (Ameche) "it's for you Poochie." Anyone know where it came from or what it means or refers to?

I'm watching that movie now and the scene you mention was just on. Don A.'s son answers the phone and it's presumably from Don's much-younger "girlfriend" that they were just discussing. Don's son then says "It's for you, POOCHIE". The audience infers that Don's girlfriend just asked for him in this way.
