TCM gives this a TV-14 rating?????

WHY?????

reply

TV ratings are weird. They also give Poltergeist, a PG rated movie, the TV-MA rating. Weird.

Poltergeist would have been PG-13 if it had been released a few years later.

No blah, blah, blah!

There are scenes of violence, including a woman being slapped repeatedly, scenes of several obvious torture victims bearing multiple injuries, and the story alludes to the murder of hundreds of innocent hostages. None of these things are graphically shown, but I don't think that it's unreasonable to recommend that the film not be seen by small children.

I just don't think that they're consistent at TCM. But, of course, the ratings are determined by different people on staff. Non-rated films, pre late-60s, are subjective.
