Two Renfields for the Price of One

Alexander Granach, who played the Renfield-inspired character in Murnau's 1922 "Nosferatu" and Dwight Frye, the Universal-1931-Lugosi "Dracula's" Renfield, both appear in this film.

Granach gives a tour-de-force performance here; if it seems a bit contrived and over-the-top, blame the script and direction, not the fine actor (speaking of which, if Gene Lockhart had been given one more hysterical, phony, melodramatic outburst in this film, I would have kicked in the TV screen).

Dwight Frye has a small but dynamic part as a Czech inmate; too bad he didn't do more.
