Times have changed. Irene Dunne was nearly 50 when she made this film, and she did fine. Holly Hunter was 31 whe she made Always in 1989 and did very well too. Today they'd both play someone's granny....

When Irene Dunne first appears in "A Guy Named Joe" she plays the part as Katherine Hepburn would have. I wonder whether that was Tracy’s influence?

Irene Dunn was multitalented. Comedy, drama and musical theater. She has a song in “A Guy Named Joe."
