Fun movie to watch, but ....

Not just an unlikely ending, an impossible one. With no training, she flies a hotrod P-38 fighter and performs a low-level precision bombing run!!! Obviously it is just in her blood (ho ho ho).

1. Why didn't she ever hijack one of Joe's planes, didn't she love him as much?
2. Why were there no MPs there to arrest her when she landed Ted's P-38?
3. Did Ted feel like a real man after his tough-as-nails woman saved his butt?
4. Did she take Ted's place because she knew he would screw it up?
5. Now that Ted knows his gal will always be there to watch his butt, will they still get married?
6. What was the point? Realistically, she would have been blown away, and Ted would've been miserable for a few weeks until he met the next girl of his dreams!
7. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

I still enjoyed the movie just because Spencer, Irene, and Van are really great.

Do the German pilots go to a German heaven, and give spiritual advice to the young German aviators?

You know you should surrender
But you can't let it go...

She was in the ferrying command. Pilots ferried everything from single engine trainers to multi engined bombers. There was no indication that she wasn't qualified to fly a twin engined fighter. Many other women did in real life - there was a whole group of them.

Most of your other questions can be given one answer. It was a fantasy movie. They tend to let a lot of "reality" slide in fantasies. That's what they are - too fantastic for reality.

I agree with highway....
Just sit back and enjoy-this was the era of never a bad ending.
A alternate ending was thought of and shot where Irenne's character dies and winds up with Spencers Joe-but wasn't used

It's all true about the women flyers. There is tons of stuff about them online. But I think what she did wouldn't have been allowed.
