This episodic film had some segments I enjoyed more than others, but it was quite a worthy effort, both in purpose and achievement. I enjoyed most of all Ida Lupino, feisty and charming here, teamed with manly Brian Aherne - they made a fine couple of working-class stiffs. Also, this was the first film of Jessie Matthews I've seen and she was quite winning, with Ian Hunter. I was shocked that Buster Keaton's name does not even show up in the end credits, unless I just missed it. He has a funny cameo as a plumber installing a tub. My least favorite would have to be a tie between Americans Robert Cummings and Kent Smith - nice of them to participate, but both are bland here.

Actually I like Cummings in it very much, and Kent Smith is fine. (He was always a bit on the bland side, which made him perfect for the part he did in "The Fountainhead".)

How Roland Young was not up for a supporting actor Oscar for this... what were they thinking?

I really did like everyone in it, though. Merle Oberon... Claude Rains... Victor McLaglen... maybe career-best for Ian Hunter... Laughton is superb... really, all of them are in top form. And Buster, bless him, was just a comedy god, and could be wonderfully funny with almost nothing to work with.

Glad that I purchased the dvd a couple o years ago, I taped it in the nineties but
nice addition to my collection.

It is a very memorable movie taking you down memory lane.

I like them all in this film, too. Each one did a fine job.

The segment with Aherne and Lupino was easily my favorite. The part where she goes chasing after him...hilarious!

Laughton's character reminds me of the one he played in RUGGLES OF RED GAP. And though his wife Elsa Lanchester was in a different vignette, it's always great when they are in the same film together.

I rated FOREVER AND A DAY a 9...excellent classic film.

My favorite performance was by Gladys Cooper, who was never more memorable.

Second favorite: Ida Lupino, who I always love to watch.
