Plot hole? (possible spoiler)
Surely it wouldn't have taken General Sebastiano long to notice his gun was missing?
He did notice it. There was a scene where he is coming down the stairs and he says to Rommel that his gun is missing. Rommel says that he probably lost it. He replies that he may have lost some battles but he has never lost a gun.
