It seems to me that there's an enormous plot hole in this movie!
***SPOILER ALERT***
After a short time (especially in the desert heat) I assume Davos' body in the cellar would start reeking and everyone would know a body was there. I assumed that they would dig him out at night and move the body before that happened, but of course they didn't.
Yes, and I was sure there is a scene where they mentioned they were going to tend to that later that night.
Plot hole or no, still an excellent film. Franchot Tone was great. This film is as good as Casablanca, but in a different way. More action less romance but great.
And the propganda flag-waving scenes were kept to a minimum which makes it even better. Wilder also did STALAG 17, good also, but I enjoyed this one much more.
Regarding the American accent on Tone, he really could not have had a Brit one. Would have been a death sentence.
Some great performances here and quite a bit of tongue-in-cheek for such a serious subject. Entertainment. Truly.
The Italian General was superb.
