'Normal' Bugs

In response to the comments by Bob the Moo and his concern that Bugs Bunny is painted differently than what he's used to, he has to realize that during the Bob Clampett era at Warner Brothers he made much more edgier cartoons. He brought out a lot of different personas and emotions in all of the characters we're familiar with.

Chuck Jones and the other animators were terrific, but they were more into bring stylish and eventually settled into a formula where Bugs was always infallible, and Daffy and Elmer were always the fall guy. I think the Clampett era was more of a refection of society in that one individual doesn't always win, henceforth Bugs beginning to completely panic once he found out there were such things as gremlins. In fact, it's the very diversity of personalities that Clampett brought out that made a lot of his cartoons more entertaining. During his time Daffy lived up to his name and was absolutely wacky but on occasion could also be charming, and Bugs was much more of a smartass, and it wouldn't be beneath him to be more devious in what he wanted to do, and at the same time he wasn't always infallible. Clampett also first introduced us to Tweety Bird, and the early Tweety was pretty loony compared to the later one that was always so sweet.

Anyway, just my opinion.

I have developed a theory about this. Usually, Bugs Bunny is pitted against a foe that is either larger than he is (Gossamer, the Champ in Bunny Hugged and Rabbit Punch, etc.) or about the same size (Elmer, the Tasmanian Devil), and is thus forced to use his wits. Occasionally he even tackles a villain who is shorter than he is, like Marvin the Martian or Yosemite Sam, if they are sufficiently armed. Faced with an adversary that is less than half his size, however, and the tables are turned. Thinking that he can best them physically, Bugs becomes overconfident and puts his typically quick wit in automatic pilot, resulting in his downfall. Along with the Gremlin, other examples include Cecil Turtle (Tortoise Beats Hare, Tortoise Wins By A Hare, Rabbit Transit), the Dead End Kid in Easter Yeggs ("I wanna Easter egg! I wanna Easter egg!") and the fly in Baton Bunny.

Don't Forget that Bugs also seemed to have lost in "Rabbit Rampage". Suprisingly, Elmer Fudd was the one who got the best of him!
