Way Too Lose with History!

Movies that try to rewrite history in a big way upset me! I can take the small transgressions (there was no sub involved in the Doolittle raid ... and no men where put ashore for reconnaissance) but to suggest that this sub took out a Japanese Carrier is really offensive! It is also very disrespectful to the participants of the real Doolittle raid.

The activity is highly embellished, but I do think there is a trace of reality in it. I am fairly (95 percent plus) certain that at least one American submarine did approach within visual range of Japan to collect weather information in advance of the Doolittle raid.

The part about putting men ashore and sinking an aircraft carrier is flagrant embellishment. But, I've never known the navy to cooperate with making a film that did not embellish their contributions. Maybe they kept it pretty straight in Midway. There was not much embellishment possible in that battle.

The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.
