This movie was so funny. 5 stars!

So many old b&w movies are called comedies when they're about as funny as having to peel onions. I mean big budget films with star names. In the entire movie there might be one laugh! I caught this on TCM last month and recoded it by accident! Thank goodness for that. It was funny and a pretty good B mystery. It's a shame the married couple a private eye and his wife, didn't do a film with Nick & Nora Charles. They Thin man movies are great but again they never made me laugh out loud like this one.

The old man who was the elevator operator stole the movie.William Demarest & Frank Craven as detectives also stole plenty of scenes.

I will definitely buy it when it comes out.

Leading the blind squirrels of inquiry to the lost nuts of illumination.

I came to this board to find out if anyone else appreciated Hobart Cavanaugh's hilarious routine as the elevator operator! He was certainly the standout in the film, despite fine performances by Keyes and Joslyn. Given the time lapse between messages, there apparently aren't that many of us who noticed this comic gem, but it's good to know that one of the great character actors of the Golden Age has received at least a little recognition at IMDb for his work in this film.
