Which segment do you like better: Bugs/Porky or young Daffy?

I pick the Bugs Bunnny/Porky Pig segment, which makes me laugh twice as hard as the other.

The final gag of that segment (where Bugs is suddenly wearing a tutu) kills me.

Bugs in drag is always good comedy.

My favorite Bugs-in-drag is his Brunhilde in What's Opera, Doc.

That's a censored curse word. Comic strips frequently make use of those symbols at the top of the keyboard to indicate foul language.

The database credits Mel Blanc as the voice for Bugs Bunny, the dog, the swans and Daffy Duck.

I remember the dog saying "Uh-uh!" But I can't remember any of the other characters making any vocal sounds at all. I'll have to watch the cartoon again. That may need to be corrected.

According to Leonard Maltin's Of Mice and Magic, the release date is Sep. 25, 1943. If he is right, IMDb is wrong.

Maybe they're still tied up in that pastel forest. We may need to organize a rescue party.

I don't think Porky and the dog would be happy that you're giving aid and comfort to their enemy. But then that's what they get for trying to shoot down Bugs.

I have no taste in clothes. Poor Bugs might be wearing a plaid tutu if I ever got my hands on him.

I'd love to have that picture, but I don't think I could afford the 2400.00 price tag. Yikes!

I wish the original cels of Warner Bros. cartoons existed, but most of them have been trashed or otherwise lost to time.

I heard cels of Snow White were given to kids during the opening of Disneyland. Who would have guessed they'd be priceless years later?

Argh, they had no idea people would pay big money for them someday.

Isn't that excellent?

Bugs is a flexible character. So many directors worked on him, each one giving him a wide variety of roles. Add up all the directors' many roles for Bugs and you have a fully rounded character and a versatile "actor."

Even those who have more affection for other characters would find it difficult to deny that Bugs Bunny is the greatest. Charming as Mickey Mouse is, he doesn't come close.

Oh, you don't know Bugs. If that tree happened not to have been there, he would have improvised something. Bugs is an old pro.

Maybe someone shot some behind-the-scenes footage. You never know. Someone filmed home movies of the "Jitterbug" scene in The Wizard of Oz. Now that's all we have left of it.

You mean that blue ribbon that appears at the beginning of some of the cartoons? I wouldn't think that'd look good on anyone.

But if you mean just regular blue ribbon, I'd say his ears. Not everyone has ears like that, and he should make the most of them.

I'm no Edith Head, but that could work. It could remind people that he's an award-winning rabbit.

He never gave it back, did he? From the looks of it, he may well blast anyone who annoys him. His bullets are limited (unless he knows where to get more), so if he goes on a killing spree it won't last forever.

I'd rather he had it than Tex Avery's Screwy Squirrel (over at MGM). No pun intended, but that guy is nuts.

I don't know. I've never thought to evaluate any of his many female outfits. I'll have to give that some thought.

I know I liked that one outfit in Rabbit Fire. Lady sportsman. Very becoming on Bugs.

Remember when he dressed as a mermaid to trick the fey dog that was chasing him? But that wouldn't work in the Blue Danube segment. The vulture never goes under water.

He'd have to get rid of the tutu. It wouldn't help him. He'd probably dress as a duck to lure the vulture away from the cygnets (and Daffy). At some point he would have to dress as a female vulture.

He wouldn't have much trouble with this one. He handily escaped the clutches of that other dopey vulture in at least two of his own shorts.

There's no one I would have cast over Bugs. Daffy Duck might have been able to pull off that role, even though his younger self was already in part two. If we include other studios, maybe Woody Woodpecker would have been okay. But it's a stretch to have someone hunting a woodpecker. Who hunts for woodpeckers?

I can't see Donald Duck in that part. Maybe he was more versatile than we know, but I can't imagine him being hunted. Also, he'd be deprived of his trademark voice, which is more integral to his character than Bugs's is. Heckle and Jeckle? Passable. But again, who hunts magpies?

If I couldn't have Bugs or Daffy, I wouldn't make the cartoon.

Yes, Beaky Buzzard is who I meant. I'm glad to hear he'll be in Volume 5. I'm even gladder to hear that Volume 5 is coming out so soon. Hooray!

I'm sure Road Runner is the better dancer thanks to those long legs of his. I can imagine retooling the "Vienna Woods" segment for Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. Their own series depends on a strict formula for it to be funny; but it's possible those characters could be funny outside that formula. Wile E. Coyote is funny when battling with Bugs Bunny. And that's probably him playing the wolf in those wolf-sheepdog cartoons.

No, there's no black-and-white version of this. It was made in color. And there's no earlier version of it. There couldn't be. It was made right after Fantasia came out.

Say, tell me what you think of my Elmer Fudd biography: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0029092/bio. I plan on expanding it later. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I'm thinking I'll write an overview of his "career" and then list some individual films and explain his role in them. These character pages are a lot of fun.

What are your favorite Elmer Fudd appearances?

... Justin

reply

[deleted]

When I first created the character for Elmer I had to decide what movie he was best known for.

I couldn't pick Corny Concerto because he has a small part. I was thinking of A Wild Hare, since that's the cartoon that solidified his character. Besides, the hunter is his most typical role.

But I decided on What's Opera, Doc?. Everybody knows, "Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!"

What does interlacing mean? I wonder if the disc I saw (from the library) was defective in that way.

... Justin

reply

[deleted]

What a difference! Does that mean that anywhere on the disk that you still a picture you'll get those multiple images?

And wouldn't you know that would happen on the disk with your favorite cartoon!
