*SOILERS* what was the ravn's motive?

What was vorzet's motive? Why was he writing all those letters? And did he have any enmity with Germain? & if so, was it because he thought that his wife had an affair with Germain?

To be honest, I don't think it's ever truly revealed. I just read about the real case that inspired this film...the town of Tulle was plagued with hateful poison-pen letters that accused townspeople of all sorts of vile sexual practices and transgressions, all of which seemed to be totally imaginary. The culprits got away with it for a number of years but were finally identified...it was an elderly woman and her daughter, both of whom were intensely pious and religious. They both attempted suicide by jumping in a river; the mother died but the daughter was rescued and institutionalized. Even in the asylum she was noted for her piety. The motive was never determined, but criminologist Edmond Locard said, "There is nothing so dirty as the dreams of a saint."
