LYRICS ARE:

"Little black sheep come back home with his fleece washed whiter than snow;
Shepherd towed him through the door, now he's safe in the fold once more."

LYRICS MEAN:

The little black sheep: Is representative of one's heart/soul tarnished
by the blackness/darkness of sin.

Also "black sheep" means outcast; disowned by the family, etc.

His fleece washed whiter than show: Is symbolic of one's heart/soul being
cleansed and forgiven for those sins.

Shepherd towed him: Is the Pastor or Minister preaching against our sins,
and reaching out to us with the Word of God, the good news about Salvation through Jesus Christ His Son,
to pull or bring us back to God.

NOTE: Jesus Christ is also referred to as The Good Shepherd in the Bible.
READ: Psalm 23: - "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

The Door: Is representative of Jesus Christ, being the ONLY WAY to God.

READ: John 14:6 - " Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the light,
no one comes to the Father except through me."

Safe in the fold once more: Means you are no longer out of the ark or realm of safety.
You have been forgiven for your sins, therefore you are saved from a burning hell.

The Bible says that we are all like sheep who have gone astray, and need a shepherd (Jesus Christ).
So through Him as our shepherd, we are lead back into the fold (an enclosure) where we are safe from the wolves
(satan, demons, devils) of hell.

I hope this helps. This song was something we sang in Sunday School when I was
a little girl. A little song.....with a big and important meaning!

Hi blueeyedbear.....

Thank you so much for your kind words about my old post about the meaning of the song.

I'm so sorry this is coming a whole 7 years later...LOL; and I hope you're still on board!

Second verse:

He wandered far, He wandered wide,
(safe in the fold once more)
But now he's by his sheperd's side.
(safe in the fold once more).

Third Verse:

The little black sheep had lost his way,
(safe in the fold once more)
But now he's coming back to stay."
(safe in the fold once more)

Chorus:
Oh....little black sheep come back home
with his fleece washed whiter than foam.
Shepherd towed him through the door,
He's safe in the fold once more.

"OOhhhooo....I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"

"Little black sheep" was also a reference to little children of slaves. Their mothers were used by the slave owners to wetnurse the white babies. The slave babies, especially female babies, were, thus, neglected. This theme appears in the old slave song of the same name, "Little Black Sheep". Some of the images are horrid.

"Little black sheep,
Where are you goin'?
Down in the meader. [meadow]
The buzzards and the flies
A-peckin' at your eyes.
Cryin' for your mammy."

Thank you Hillie Bolliday for the sermon thinly disguised as an explanation. Keep going with that so our eyes can glaze over like when a televangelist is on T.V.

tedmccarron....

Too bad you are one of those that the Bible speaks of in Jeremiah 5:21 "Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear." With that being said.....your eyes were already glazed over way before you read my post, and you obviously need an ear wax removal kit!

Furthermore, don't worry that empty head of yours about my explanation....but you can close that empty mouth of yours!

If you think I preached a sermon....SO BE IT! I will continue to share what I do know about the Word of God (Bible); to the best of my knowledge whenever the opportunity avails itself with those who want to hear. If you don't like it...that's your problem! I can post whatever I want on these boards as long as I don't attack, abuse, or insult someone's views, ethniticity, religion, culture, etc. But trust me.....you're going to get from me.....as good as you give to me!!!!!

As for the likes of you.....you're just envious and jealous because you weren't smart enough, nor were you spiritually or culturally aware enough to give a plausible explanation about the song in question.

THAT'S YOUR DUMB TOUGH LUCK!!!
