Just posted at DVDAnswers:

Columbia Tristar has revealed the street date for the new Batman: The 1943 Serial Collection which stars Lewis Wilson, Douglas Croft, J. Carrol Naish and Shirley Patterson. In his first screen appearance, the Caped Crusader battles Dr. Daka, Japanese mastermind of a wartime espionage-sabotage group. Daka has a radium-powered death ray that pulverizes walls, a classic alligator pit to dispose of enemies, and can turn men into electronic zombies who do his bidding. You'll be able to own this one from the 18th October this year, with the set priced at around $29.95. We'll bring you further details very shortly.

Which means stores like Meijer, K-Mart and Walmart will have it for about $19.95, like the second serial. The Creepy Classics website confirmed the DVD release a couple of weeks ago.

Im just wondering if theyre going to edit this. They released the 1943 serial in the 80s on VHS and they were all edited because of the racial slurs towards Japanese people. ANyone know what the deal is?

The original lines were actually redubbed to tone down the racist remarks in the late 1950s, with an eye toward TV broadcasts. The DVD redubs the original theatrical dialogue back in. Check out www.dvddrive-in.com/reviews/a-d/batman43.htm

Does anybody know why the opening segment of the 1943 serial is so vastly inferior in quality to the remaining chapters? I noticed this with the GoodTimes VHS release some years ago, too. The first chapter and the 14th chapter seemed to be falling apart at certain segments. Any information on this?
