Was 'Star Wars' inspired by the battle scenes in 'Air Force'?

This was a truly enjoyable film to watch. Just wondered if the battle scene in this film inspired the first "Star Wars" film. When one of the gunners shoot a Japanese plane and it explodes, the gunner turns around, smiles and tells the others about it. Also when the first planes enter the scene, one of the airmen declares "Here they come!"... both remarkably like the scenes in the first "Star Wars" movie.

I dunno about a connection between Air Force and Star Wars, but watch the trench scene when the Rebel fighters are attacking the Death Star, then watch a movie called 633 Squadron. :)

Or `The Dambusters`.

I think George Lucas was inspired by several WWII air battle movies. I don't remember hearing him cite any movies in particular. However, I have read many reviewers of his movies cite three in particular:

633 Squadron
The Dam Busters and
Battle of Britain.

Scenes and dialogue in the movie can be traced almost line by line or shot by shot to one of those three movies. The shots of the waist gunners in Mary Ann firing at the "Japanese fighters" (actually P-35s) does remind me of the shots of Han and Luke shooting "down" the attacking TIE fighters from the Millennium Falcon. However, there are similar shots in several bomber movies.

Dannie boy is right. Verbatim lines.

The millennium falcon fighting scenes were very obviously inspired by this film. I believe he slugged in actual war footage at first when he was waiting on effects shots.

My favorite scene was when they took machines guns out of the plane and were standing on a runway in the jungle firing them from the hip. Outrageous scene for the 1940s.

Actually, I thought the same thing. All I could think of was the Millennium Falcon.

I was thinking of the same thing the banter between Han and Luke. But that is a "Gag" goes back to old Westerns as well when the good guys face off with the bad guys.
