Glynis Johns

Will rip your heart out, and I'm not going to spoil it.

Johns is beyond wonderful in this film (and every other one she has appeared in).

At this writing she is still living and had her 92nd birthday just 9 days ago. I hope she is in good health and will be with us for a long time to come.

I saw her for the first time recently, in 49th Parallel, and now in The Adventures of Tartu - she "ripped my heart out" alright both times. I'm looking forward to see more of her work soon.

By the way, why is there not more love for Tartu? It's not The 39 Steps, but it's a very entertaining movie nonetheless, with a wonderful Robert Donat, Valerie Hobson - and Glynis Johns. It often seems as if people only watch old black-and-white movies if they were made by acknowledged 'great directors', while I think many of these more obscure films have a charm all their own, and plenty of it. It's a pity.
