How's it end? SPOILER!

Tivo shut off before the movie ended.

I got to the part where they get in the car and drive away. They come upon the road block and stop. Then McMurray runs the road block and the guards yell.....

And that's as far as I got.

Not the best movie but interesting and quirky.

Same thing happened to me! Second time in a month I missed the last few minutes of a movie on TCM. Must be something in their time scheduling. I hope someone replies to this post.

Yes, unfortunately looks like TCM is moving to "Sloppy Time" where the scheduled time isn't the actual time it will start/end. This is the second time for me too. The other time it stopped while "The End" was on the screen. This is my first where important content was lost.

I've also caught the end of the previous movie once or twice.

It's an annoying trend among the other channels and one I've noticed TCM didn't take part in, until recently.

Hopefully somebody can help with the ending.

for details, go to TCM, bring up the 1943 version from the search box. click READ FULL SYNOPSIS.

its also on again Jan 17 2014.

I was hoping for a little more in the description of the end.

That's weird. Usually TCM's movies end 10-15 minutes before the scheduled end of the TiVo recording. My TiVo cut off a TCM movie only once, a long time ago, and I complained to TCM. It hasn't happened to me since then, so maybe in your geographic region/cable market TiVo is getting the wrong info from Tribune Media Services (the listings provider). Tribune makes a lot of mistakes in program descriptions--and I often send them corrections via email--but they don't usually get the timing wrong unless they have the wrong title (i.e., if there are several versions of a film w/the same title, as there is with this film, and they are reporting the length to the wrong [shorter] version).

Anyway, here's what happened at the border crossing: The German guard runs up and they stop the car. The guard leans into the back seat and picks up his burning cigar, which had fallen onto the floor. Then they let them continue their trip w/a hearty "Heil Hitler" salute.

The three drive some distance into Italy (neutral territory at that time) and push the staff car over a steep cliff where it crashes down and burns. MacMurray says, "Well, how about some spaghetti!" and they walk away smiling.

Thanks for the ending.

I've noticed it's more apt to happen between say 1am and 5am. It still is a rare occurrence in my experience.

It definitely is however the program exceeding the time slot.

Thanks again for letting me know how it ended.

You're welcome. I guess you can always pad those recordings by five minutes as long as they don't interfere with another scheduled recording.

I have a similar problem in Spokane, WA (Comcast digital cable) on a bunch of channels, but only about 15-30 seconds gets cut off. I complained to Comcast, and they told me that this will sometimes happen on "fractional" digital channels. I.e., some broadcasters have more than one channel they're using, such as 80.1, 80.4, 80.7, etc. For some of these, the timing is off by a fraction of a minute. Unfortunately when the program reaches me, Comcast has assigned its own integer channel numbers to those channels (e.g., 138, 196, etc.), so I can't always figure out which ones are the problem.

Therefore I tend to pad almost everything by a minute or two, just in case. But I have two TiVo Premieres that each have a dual-stream cable card, so I can record up to four programs at once. Thus I seldom have a problem. And when I get a rare warning that one program will be trimmed, I usually try to have it trim the beginning of the second show instead of the end of the first show. It tends to work out O.K.

The ending is kind of awesome—that has to be a real car they flipped off the cliff and the last line delivered by Fred MacMurray is so anachronistic—but in a good way—as if it were written by a modern script doctor... it's a one-liner that's out of the blue, and to me, it was a laugh out loud moment.

They could have ended with some sappier line regarding the honeymoon.

I really recommend tracking down the film on DVD just to watch the ending—you'll never get the feel of the timing and the somewhat impressive cliff scene (considering 75% of the film appears to be rear-projection and diorama-type sets) on a forum post.

They all go eat some spaghetti.

It's a real car they pushed but it's a model car that crashed and burned.
