.....not even an accent, except maybe from Mr. (not Señor) Acuña. Funny how they try to pass this off as being in South America.

The first song sang in the film at the eldest daughter's wedding was in spanish. Other than that, there is little representing Argentina in this film.
That's the only gripe I have with this film and others like it from that era. There was poor representation of minorities and when they did feature them, it was either racist or the characters were all played by caucasians.
I did notice that Fred Astaire trilled the 'R' every time he said 'Maria.' Oddly, he was the only person to do that.

This was probably one of the many good neighbouring politics from Hollywood and US government towards south america. There was a boom of movies that were artificially located in Argentina, Brazil, etc, only to try to straighten the relationship.
So this being in Argentina or Notorious being in Brazil was not that important.
I think they must have thought this was a documentary set in Argentina in the 40s about the real Acuna family. So I can understand how they must be truly frustrated and disappointed.
shareHave Hollywood movies changed on that front? Hollywood movies are still completely lacking in language barriers. Whether the movie is set in Thailand or Wakanda, everyone there speaks English.
