Best scene is a classic

SPOILER ON BOARD - - - -

The best scene that I like is when George starts to tap-dance down the
stairs. That is a classic. And it's incredible that Cagney is doing
it at forty-three years old.

Yes, after all the glorious dancing throughout the film, that ending was a beautiful cap.

reply

A perfect ending. Cagney danced it well.

reply

Yeah, that was a great scene. And the one after that with the soldier asking him if he remembers the lines to the song.

According to Wiki, that dance on the stairs was impromptu, just thought up by Cagney as the scene was being filmed.
It WAS a great bit, but imagine director Curtiz' outrage if Jimmy had stumbled.
Curtiz was noted for having a fierce temper, which is why a number of WB actors (like Errol Flynn) refused to work with him.
