That guy sure did some crazy dance!


I got a kick out of the part near the beginning where they were sitting around drinking and that guy got up and danced that crazy little dance. It was like a combination Irish jig and Riverdance on LSD. That guy literally looked like he had rubber for legs. (Appropriately enough, the setting of the movie was a RUBBER plantation... lol).

He was dancing a hornpipe to the tune "The Sailor's Hornpipe". It's the style of dance I usually see performed at reenactment events and IS reminiscent of the Irish jig; it likely is related.

Long ago, sailors were made to dance hornpipes in order to keep in condition. This and other tunes would be played on the tin whistle or concertina.
