observations (minor spoilers)

mostly good special effects, without too much blood & guts... seems to be a comb of old, grainy footage and "new" stuff. nominated for 4 oscars.. but none for special effects.

also... when Randall refuses to get on the plane to head back to the mainland, they waste a lot of effort trying to convince him to get him on the plane... i imagine the pilot would have just said "suit yourself" and taken off without him. (i get it... that gives him the excuse to rejoin the military service, but it was pretty contrived.)
