OK movie, but a terrible screenplay.
This is my first John Brahm - a director I had never heard of before the Fox Horror Classics box set came out on DVD. I'm very impressed by his visual style, but the screenplay for this is just terrible. First of all, the ending: Why wouldn't the detective be at all upset that the doctor was obstructing his mission to catch the murderer? Also, WHY was the doctor doing this? Because "the patient mustn't know?" He killed two people and almost killed a third - and we're still concerned about the patient's state of mind?
That's just one of my problems with the plot of the movie. I'll let the clunky dialogue and competent-to-annoying acting speak for itself. Still, it's a movie worth seeing because of the visuals. I hope the other two movies in the set will be a lot better than this one.
What's the Spanish for drunken bum?
