Question about the ending
Why did they burn the house down at the end? I missed that part.
shareWas it not an accident? Their reaction to let it burn showed that they were ridding themselves of what they saw as an unlucky thing.
shareIn the book, Danny had inherited two houses and never wanted either one. He let his friends live in one and he lived in the other. His friends accidently burned down the first house which was actually a relief to Danny. They then all moved in with Danny. After Danny dies in the book, the second house accidently catches on fire, but the men let it burn. They knew Danny did not like the responsibility of either house, they did not want some unknown relative to inherit it and it wasn't the same without Danny so they let it burn and went their separate ways.
shareThe movie makes next to no sense in comparison. Danny's friends, especially Pilon just come off as low class parasites.
The movie in a nutshell:
Dolores and Danny in love,
Pilon and Company ruin everything they touch,
and some religion. The end.
