Relevant to Obama and the Democrats?

One poster likened this movie to a form of pre WWII propaganda. It was actually much much more. A WARNING OF THINGS TO COME!. Ardrey's vision of a NAZI regime on the rise and a potential World War (in fact the phrase is actually used in this film before such a second WW had even taken place). It is funny how Ardrey's warning through this movie "Thunder Rock"- went unheard until we experienced the calamity of Pearl Harbor... What a wake-up call.

I ask you to recall the World Trade center bombing in 1983, the U.S.S. Cole attack and the subsequent apathy in simply picking up Bin Laden from the Sudanese.

2001 and the lack of interest... the ignoring of all warnings finally pays off.

AND now we again have our heads in the sand. The warnings are there, yet we shake hands and hug Hugo Chavez. The warnings are there, yet we close GITMO. The warnings are there yet we release records of enhanced interrogation (or torture if you are an idiot) without a thought for presenting the truth of the success of these same programs (and inciting more hate for the U.S.A. all over the world!). The warnings are there, and yet we are contemplating the release of ex-gitmo residents directly into our general population because their own home countries will not accept terrorists!

WAKE UP OBAMA!... WAKE UP PELOSI!... WAKE UP REID!....

Watch this movie and see if you draw a parallel. Those who forget the past, are doomed to repeat it!

+ there are ghosties!!!!

Actually I see it the other way around. It is the USA under GWBush that bears resemblance to Nazi Germany (the unitairan President, undoing of the Constitution and Geneva Convention.) And if YOU think what we did in Guantanamo and Abu-Graib WEREN'T torture, YOU sport the cajones to subject yourself to extreme temperature variations, sleep deprivation, forced nudity, painful stress positions, gut punching, handcuffed and hanging from overhead pipes, and best of all WATERBOARDING! How about YOU having your freedom stolen away from you, indefinitely detained without formal charge, denied access to an attorney or a trial all in the name of America with Liberty and Justice for all. And yet our home prisons house or housed Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Son of Sam, Richard Ramirez, the UniBomber, Timothy McVey, child rapists and murderers, the BMI sniper, the 1983 WTC bomber and yet none of these people ever escaped to commit further harm to any American person. Actually no one has EVER escaped from a maximum security prison.

But you are right in that Obama, Pelosi, and Reid NEED to see this film for different reasons. We NEED to end the corporate lobbying of Washington. Get the Insurance industries and Wall Street crooks from pilfering this country and enslaving the people just like the coal miner in the movie was left with black lung, no job, and no future for his family, practically selling his daughter (their future) into slavery. Yes, and the feminist (abortion and gay equality rights) only to be ultimtely usurped and broken by the religious right (Mormons in the movie). And the doctor being silenced by society who don't accept science (that means catastrophic climate change, stem cell research, and new energy efficient sources.)

Finally Redgrave's character is a call to arms or UnArm our military spending in Iraq and reduce our efforts in Afganistan. Terrorism is fought by INTERNATIONAL POLICE EFFORTS and creating a liviable society in countries so that terrorist groups disguising as political parties can't take footholds. The Marshall plan PROVED it worked.

Yes, this film resonates to date, but NOT for the reasons the OP cited.

Barely a parallel. Why didn't you mention North Korea? Why didn't you mention Iran? The difference is the world is different. Terrorists are always going to be on this planet. We can only try to destroy their organizations, but torture, and torture by any other name smells as sour, torture only clarifies that we will resort to becoming what the Japanese were in WWII, and that leads to something worse than being attacked and killed. It leads to becoming the animals in the garbage heap of lost morals and of loss of humanity. Our founding fathers would be disgusted that we thought the best way to fight an enemy is to torture.

OK, maybe we should march into countries and bomb the hell out of them in a premptive basis until all the terrorist groups are destroyed, killing as many foreign citizens as we can, killing American troops by the hundreds or thousands, and getting the enemy first before they get us! WAIT, wasn't that what we fought AGAINST in WWII?

All empires fall; we are definitely starting the downward slide. All one has to do is open your eyes and look around.

Many go fishing all their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.

That's real deep, boy. Now I know why you've taken to posting gibberish.
