JUST SEEN IT !!!!

...at the National Film Theatre London on Thursday 25th Oct.
Very good, darker, crueller, colder and more violent than The Eagle Has Landed with superb performances.
How genuine British soldiers could distinguish between themselevs and the disguised German paratroopers during the chaotic battle scenes gave pause for thought.
Thora Hird was a revelation as a sedcutress and trigger -happy shootist ! Cast-against-their-later-type James Donald and David Farrar were excellent too. My favorite was the shopkeeper: could she be described as a 'battleaxe' ? Rare footage, too, of a young Patricia Hayes as her assistant !

I found out about this film from a documentary on WWII filmmaking. This and "In Which We Serve" were basically British propaganda to counter the Nazi's own Titanic (no relation to the Leonardo DiCaprio movie).
