Recommendations for GOOD time travel films!

Other than SOMEWHERE IN TIME, TIME AFTER TIME, and the BACK TO THE FUTURE series does anyone have any other favorite time travel films?
I would also add PORTRAIT OF JENNY, 12 MONKEYS, and THE TWO WORLDS OF JENNIE LOGAN.
I have a pretty good list of time travel books, with Jack Finney's being at the top, but time travel films seem harder to find.
Thanks!

There are two kinds of Time Travel films/stories. The most common (and most boring) is where time travel is a "spice" element of the story like, e.g., Kate & Leopold, About Time, Terminator, 12 Monkeys and, ironically, The Time Machine.

Few focus on time travel being the main plot, if you know what I mean? A kind of overarching story line in other words. Few examples include The Butterfly effect, BttF2, The Girl who Leapt through time and The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Any story involving Time Travel is bound to have some made up *beep* in it but there's a fine line between making *beep* up as you go along versus having it all figured out at the start and abiding by the constraints you've set up.

In simple terms, you can only watch a good time travel movie once since watching it a second time will be vastly different (in a good way).

I know you've requested a GOOD time travel film. Instead I present you with perhaps the best Time Travel focused story in the form of a short anime series. Forgiving its small 2 episode derailing near the middle with the two side characters, it's overall one of the most solid time travel stories ever told. Extremely spoiler heavy, as with any good story of course, so be aware.

I'm quite surprised none have yet mentioned it in this thread not only because it's about time travel, but also because it's under Kate&Leopold.

The name of the series is Steins;Gate.

Since someone else mentioned Star Trek: TNG, I'll second those and add:

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Visionary, Trials and Tribbleations, The Sound of Her Voice, Things Past, Past Tense 1 & 2
Star Trek: Voyager - Relativity, Time and Again, Blink of an Eye, Gravity, Shattered
Star Trek: The Next Generation - Cause and Effect
Red Dwarf - Future Echoes, Stasis Leak, Timeslides, Backwards

Films are tougher. I liked Back to the Future, Frequency, and Terminator. I usually like romantic comedies, I haven't found too many romcom time travel movies that I like.

Edit: I'm quite fond of Sliding Doors, but it's more like a dimension-hopping than time travel concept.

Another vote for Lost in Austen.

My favorite time-travel story ever was the "Journeyman" TV show that aired 13 episodes in 2007. The acting was great, and the writing was absolutely brilliant! But evidently, it was too intelligent for NBC's viewers, because it lost ratings week by week and was cancelled. Unfortunately, there are no commercially available DVDs (or streaming) in the U.S., but an eBayer sells bootleg discs made from the original TV broadcasts. There's also a Region 2 DVD set available from Britain (the lead actor is Scottish). Eight friends came over to watch the DVDs with me and my wife and they all said things like "Wow--this is great!" "Thanks so much for sharing this!" and "How come I never heard of this when it was on??"

Seconding some other recommendations here, "Kate and Leopold" was fun, and "Lost in Austen" was GREAT fun--highly recommended!

The best serious time-travel film I know is "Millennium." Watch the movie--and then read John Varley's novel of the same name (both are extensions of his short story "Air Raid") and get blown away by how much richer and deeper he's able to go with the same story in 200 pages of print than in two hours of film.

Finally, I have to try to warn unwary viewers away from "Somewhere in Time." As I said in my imdb review, this is the first movie I would consider watching again, with the right group of friends, just to make fun of it. It is the hokiest, cheesiest, brain-dead-ist thing I have ever seen. Seriously, my wife and I both thought "Clairol commercial" when we watched it. If that sounds harsh, or you want to be amused, check out the examples in my review.

Ok, Somewhere in Time is very corny by today's standards, but it was made a long time ago. Back then people were watching The Love Boat and network soap operas were in their heyday. See in that context, and it is a sweet, albeit dated romantic drama. The music is beautiful and I always like to see Mackinaw Island and its Grand Hotel as the backdrop. There is also a chance to see the wonderful Christopher Reeve before tragedy struck his life.

Some great recommendations on this never ending thread. Was surprised to see A Quest For Love as I didn't know anyone else was aware of it. Being a time travel fanatic let me add two more. An Angel for May one of my top ten best and Disney's 14 Going on 30 (not to be confused with 13 going on 30) I have tried for years to get a copy of the latter and finally got a bootlegged DVD. One of the more enjoyable ones out there.

My favorites are BERKELY SQUARE, originally a play, then filmed in the 30's staring Leslie Howard. Then re-made in 1951 with Tyrone Power renamed I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU". For years it was in litigation and not seen or released on dvd. Finally it was released a few years ago as part of a Tyrone Power set. It was filmed in Black and white and in Technicolor when he went back in time. Like THE WIZARD OF OZ.
