Making Fun of Katherine Hepburn

In the mirror and pajamas scene, I thought that Jean Arthur was making fun of Katherine Hepburn. Did anybody else feel that way? The pajamas made think of Hepburn, but I can't remember the movie she wore them in.

I didn't take it as making fun. Just a light-hearted young woman playing in the mirror. I've done stuff like that. It's fun but you look ridiculous when you get caught. Heh.

"Married? Goody-Two-Shoes and the Filthy Beast?!"

I believe Arthur was indeed putting-on Katharine Hepburn - it seems unmistakable today, and in 1942 audiences would have picked up on it instantly.

Yes she was. There is really no doubt.

When I saw that scene Hepburn immediately came to mind. Not so much making fun of her though, more like mimicking her. This was after Woman of the Year I think so it may have been an inside joke but one we could all enjoy. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I was thinking Veronica Lake but my daughter thought Katherine Hepburn.

reply

She was definitely "doing" Hepburn, but not "making fun".

BTW, I corrected the spelling of the OP's title.
