What On EARTH Happened?

I have never seen an old movie begin with so much promise and literally divebomb in another direction like this!

It began showing Africans being bought and enslaved, we get the sugar-coating which was to be expected and then the employment, which, WOW, you don't hear about that, do you? Good or bad. Even if it was completely made up, but yea, find those good jobs shining shoes and doing laundry, carrying fo' yo' babies, but how about that last one in the bank?

Would have loved to have heard HIS story!

But then what do we get? All white guys, led by Jackie Cooper. That was unreal.

I literally braced myself for a movie that would be insightful and forgotten and this thing totally shifted gears!

But it began with all that acknowledgement, at least! Unbelievable!

Yep, it seemed as if Orson Welles directed the first 15-20 minutes, then went out for a smoke and never came back, and the rest of the film was completed by
some no-name assistant director. At least it ended with Gene Krupa, who's always
a plus. The DVD has some good short films with Louis Armstrong, Hoagy Carmichael,
and others.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.
