Gene Tierney,John Carradine,Elsa Lanchester

Of all the films I've seen Gene Tierney in,she never looked lovelier or more luminous than in this feature, especially with a flower in her hair. And it's always a pleasure to see John Carradine in anything; here,he gets to play the compassionate friend of Tyrone Power, whose dream of riches ends happily when they reach Gene Tierney's island paradise(at least with her, anyplace would be paradise!)And Elsa Lanchester,as a common barmaid who helps Power escape from England, who merely wants a few precious moments in the presence of a gentleman. What a marvelous cast!

Right on.

Watching it now on TCM and everything you said it so true. When she asks carradine why he wants to go away you do have to wonder why too. Most of us would be all too happy to stay.

This was one cool movie. I have heard of the above mentioned stars, but never seen any of their flicks, with the exception of Mr. Power. The whipping of Benjamin by his sadistic uncle really shocked me. That is sad Frances and Gene faced mental issues in later years.
