Why Did Isabel turn him in?

Why did the London girlfriend, Isabel I believe her name was, turn in a guy she appeared to be in love with the first chance she got?
Leaving Gene Tierney to plead guilty for a hanging offense in London one would have to have a screw loose in my opinion. She was gorgeous.

Ben left Eve because of his duty to reclaim Breetham Manor. Isabel turned Ben in to her father because of her desire to keep Breetham (at the time she did it, she believed that Ben had no chance of reclaiming his birthright). Ben made the smart move returning to Eve and the island....although in real life Power joined the Marines air corps and fought in the Pacific during WWII. (Wouldn't it have been something if he had wound up on that island during the '40's?)

I just saw the movie yesterday. I can see why Tyrone Power was a heartthrob in his day. That is sad his gf backstabbed him, but I kinda figured he would return to the island girl. That was my first time seeing Frances Farmer act, her RL story is tragic!

I just saw the movie and enjoyed it. It was predictable that Tyrone would return to the island girl but with only two minutes left in the movie, I was starting to wonder. Finally, with just a little over two minutes remaining, he was on the ship to return. Gene was really gorgeous as an island girl - she was 22 years old.

I've wondered that myself. But there are two reasons:

1. He wanted to reclaim his birthright; and
2. He wanted Isabel- the beautiful blonde played by Frances Farmer.

Frances Farmer was not as gorgeous as Gene Tierney, but well, maybe Ben was partial to blondes (lol). As it turned out, it appears that he got both of them, with Eve, more beautiful and much sweeter for life.
