Great music, great comedy, great fun, But Mr. Bert Lahr steals the show hands down, with his wacky songs, and great vaudeville routines brought to the screen, the scene where he thinks he's taking stage direction is freakin' hilarious!!!

I know some may think I am nuts, but this is my favorite Bert Lahr film along with Ship Ahoy where he co-stars with Red "Bone" Skelton, Buddy Ebsen does a great job as his sidekick and reminds me of Red Skelton, sort of, in this film...

It's funny to me that Bert & Buddy didn't make more buddy films together or Bert & Red, they were 2 great separate teams and in both, BERT LAHR STOLE THE SHOW!!!

Patsy Kelly was great too as Bert's girlfriend.

I agree with your assessment of this film. Very fun and not to mention that The Marx Brothers great leading lady Margaret Dumont is in fine form as the gangs landlady ...What alot of people didn't know is that Patsy Kelly caused a breakup of June Havoc and Buddy Ebsen, who were sleeping together at that time... You see Patsy was a very proud Lesbian and was famous for having trysts with many young Hollywood starlets. Well on day one through day 3 of ghe filming Buddy was back east and while he was in NY, Patsy out of control went after June Havoc and with no Buddy around Patsy had 29 year old June Havoc bedded down and experiencing the powerful Lesbian lovemaking of Patsy Kelly who had had young beauties such as Rita Hayworth, Lupe Velez. Dolores Delrio , Thelma Todd and others. ... Well June's 3 day experiment of the other lifestyle culminated by Zbuddy Ebsen returning at 2 am and finding June and Patsy in the act... Well needless to say that ended her snd Buddy's relationship, Patsy would be June's only lover for another year... June would comeback to men only by 1945 but this Caught sexual relationship with Patsy Kelly would pretty much.end both Patsy and June's careers until Patsy made a comeback in the 60s.. Wild stuff huh!? I read About this in Patsy's biography " Loving the Ladies" published right before her death...
