A Great Movie

When I found this movie I thought I had found a treasure. I love Chicago but this was priceless! I did not know there was a prequel to the musical and Adolph Menjou and Ginger Rogers were terrific and very funny. Roxie Hart is a wonderful character and Ginger Rogers stands up with the best of them.

I agree that this is one great movie. Be sure to watch it when it is on tv again if you haven't seen it. I agree with you on Adolph and Ginger. They should have at least got oscar nominations. And it was unusual seeing George McGomery not in a cowboy role and he was good in it too.

I think George Montgomery was spoofing Clark Gable in all those newspaper men roles Clark played. He even sounded like Clark - so funny and really well done.

I saw Chicago and enjoyed before ever seeing Roxie Hart so I was pleasantly suprised to find that rare gem:a remake that was almost as good as the original.
I've see Roxie several times since then and just watched it again this morning.
Snappy one liners and hilarious performances from the entire cast make this one a keeper!

That courtroom scene at the end is just terrific, I love how everybody poses all importantly for the pictures. Plus, a very nice cast, the other lawyer's interactions with Ginger were great, also Fred from 'I Love Lucy' had some really good lines.

The only thing I didn't like was Ginger's hair in the beginning.

The way I see it, is that we weren't retreating, we were just attacking in a new direction.

"Describe it to the audience! ..uh, the jury."

I fell out of my chair laughing the first time I heard Menjou utter that line.

Except for Ginger Roger's acting I fail to see what was great about Roxie Hart. The gags wore out pretty quick, some of the narrative was all over the place and it was hard to see what Homer saw in Roxie beyond her looks. By the end he was pretty much a sap.

Certainly energetic, brash and saucy, but ultimately the one-note silliness gets somewhat overbaked. Also, the ending sucks. As for Rogers, I don't know what it is she can do "with the best of them" as the OP suggests - it certainly ain't acting,
