Ginger Overplayed Her Role

I know there's nothing subtle in this great satire, but Ginger mugged in every scene -- less would have been better. Am I alone in this?

reply

No, not me, I think she may have overplayed her role in a few scenes but that is what makes it so good and believable. Ginger was just super as far as I am concerned.

reply

Yes, I found her quite annoying. In all fairness, I think Ginger did a good job of representing a bird-brained woman who would resort to exactly that sort of over-the-top behavior to further her career (or to beat a murder charge!).

reply

This is supposed to be a broad farce. I think Ginger was fine in it. In some scenes she reminded me of Lucille Ball.

reply

Fortunately, you are indeed alone. "Overplayed?" This was Rogers' finest film. Forget Kitty Foyle....this was the one in which she was able to best demonstrate her ability.

Remember When Movies Didn't Have To Be Politically Correct?

reply

Ginger could do no wrong. 

reply

I agree with the OP.

I think you need to pay more attention to the various plots in the films you see...

ROXIE was willing to take the blame for the killing to get personal fame. Don't you remember all the photographs being taken of her by the news media, ever second, and how she was constantly posing with a huge smile on her face... This made the character of Roxie to be unrealistic and over the top...

GINGER played the role accordingly and was perfect at it.

If you found the performance overplayed, you should blame the writers.
