Plot Hole?

Since when was the Gestapo shy about demanding any person present their papers? Talbot, the RAF flier, is followed timidly by a Parisian policeman and a Gestapo agent who wondered about the identity of the strange man. I think in German-occupied France, the Gestapo agent would simply approach the man, demand his papers, and then arrest him when he failed to present said papers. Of course this would have shortened the movie considerably.

iwals, ARE YOU SERIOUS? this is JOHN WAYNE! Who would dare do that to JW? And as the policeman pointed out, he is soooo CONVINCING playing a lover, who could doubt JW as a romantic lead!

What makes that scene work is the fact they're being followed by the two guys, the french cop and the German Gestapo agent. The policeman explains to the Gestapo guy how love works in France.

The explanation of how it's a game and the lover would jump out to surprise her and she would feign disinterest and they would linger on the doorstep, etc. makes it believable for the audience. Otherwise, we would question why such a high class lady with a high status fiancé would allow herself to be in that situation. It's very cleverly done; from the writing to the acting to the staging.

It was explained at the time. The Gestapo was following him in the hopes of finding the people he was trying to need up with.

Yes, that is how it was explained but later we find out Schulz was really protecting Pat and, in a way, Michele. He was part of the underground and was the same guy who later helped Michele get away and blocked the Germans when they were trying to chase Pat and the two other guys impersonating German officers.

i've never seen joan crawford and john wayne interact with each other before, and if they married her name would be joan wayne. i think the most powerful scenes were those very bits that took place when they were on the street trying to shake lose the germans.

sit here by the phone,
as the clock tick on the wall,
no sense in nothing but waiting,
because you're my inspiration,
there is a world to explore outside the doors,
but without you it don't reach the soul,
so i'm just wasting time,
until you show me what its all about,
i'll just chill out,
waiting for you to come back into my life.
